What happens when I come to the hospital for a checkup?
We normally perform LASIK in the afternoon from 1 pm except on Saturdays & Sundays. The duration of treatment is hardly 5 minutes per eye and both eyes are treated in the same sitting. Before the treatment, a very detailed specialized examination is carried out to determine the parameters to be corrected and ensure that the eyes are fit to undergo the treatment. The initial examination takes about 1 – 2 hours. Patients can come on any day between 8.30 AM to 5.00 PM to have a complete eye checkup and register for the treatment. Outstation patients can come on previous day at about 3.00 PM after prior appointment, have a complete examination and get treated the next day afternoon. This is an outpatient procedure and needs no hospitalization. Patients can leave for home immediately after the treatment. But since we insist on seeing the patient the next day after treatment and if the patient so desires, they are given a bath attached comfortable room to stay overnight in our hospital. After being reviewed the next day, the outstation patients can get back home. Normally we like to review our patients one week and one month later after treatment. But patients coming from a long distance can have these checkups with their local eye specialist.
If you happen to use contact lenses, they should be discontinued before the surgery. If they are semi soft lens, they should be discontinued 15 days prior to the treatment and if they are soft lens one week before the treatment. There is no diet restriction. Patients can continue with all their routine activities right up to the time of coming for treatment.
